Epoxy Flooring – Its Benefits and How to Clean it?

Garage floor epoxy coating is the first choice for many homeowners. If you are one of these homeowners, you know that cleaning the epoxy is important in order to preserve the qualities that made you choose it. This should not be a problem because epoxy floors are quite easy to clean. If you spot any mold that needs to be cleaned, you will need to get some basic items. These items are a scraper, a sanding sponge and a scraper.
You will begin by wearing the gloves, which aim to protect your hands when you are removing any rust stains from the floor. Then, you will get the scraper and use the blade in order to gently scrape the epoxy floor to remove the mold. You have to make sure that you scrape along any existing debris. It is important not to use the scraper perpendicularly on the floor. After finishing the scrapping process, it is the time to use the sanding sponge to sand the stain until it disappears completely.  While using the sponge, it is essential to work along the same patterns and never cross these patterns with each other.

After the floor is sanded with the sponge, you will start cleaning the debris by using a soft, dry, clean cloth. You can also choose to apply an epoxy finishing material but you have to be careful, as you will have to get one that has the same exact color as the floor. Apply a very thin and an even coat over the sanded area. Leave it to dry before applying a 2nd layer if needed. If you applied an epoxy finish, you have to make sure that it is dry before stepping on it so it does not smudge.
The benefits of using such flooring are countless. For starters, the floors have an outstanding ability to absorb shock because of their elasticity; this makes it quite popular among a lot of homeowners who usually use this kind of flooring in the garage. This is because the garage is one of the places that suffer from high car traffic and foot traffic. Another advantage is that tire marks do not stick to the epoxy flooring, unlike regular concrete flooring. By following the simple cleaning process that was mentioned above, you can get rid of these tire marks in no time.

This is why epoxy concrete resurfacing is also used in industrial plants, factories and office floors as they can resist the wear and tear from the machinery as well as the regular foot traffic besides being highly resistant to chemical spills and stains. Some might think that epoxy is only suitable for garage floor coverings or factories because it does not look good, which is false. This is because epoxy floorings have gone a long way, as there are decorative epoxy coverings that are made specifically for indoor use such as living rooms and office floors.

       Epoxy & Acrylic Floor Garages

Topical sealers adhere to the surface of the concrete.  Known as film forming sealers or floor coatings, the most economical of these are acrylic.  Most acrylic sealers are clear and form a thin protective layer on bare concrete.  They are very easy to apply using either a pump sprayer or rollers, with two coats applied for the best protection. They will protect the floor from water and chloride intrusion, and give moderate protection against oil stains, vehicle fluids, hot tire pick up, and road salt if cleaned up fairly quickly.
Acrylic sealers can also enhance the look of the floor in your garage by giving it a somewhat wet, glossy look or you can opt for a less flashy matte finish.  Once applied it will dry to the touch in a few hours.  It can be driven on the next day and sometimes sooner depending on weather conditions at the time of application.   Look for an acrylic sealer with UV protection if you have parts of your garage floor that is exposed to sunlight because it can yellow over time.

Though they are the least durable of the topical sealers, they stand up well to light traffic and need to be reapplied once every 18 to 24 months.  For a more durable alternative, we recommend looking into the newer Systems at mhepoxyandacrylicsystems.com.  These have endurance properties similar to epoxy but are applied like acrylic.

The next choice in topical sealers is epoxy.  Being one of the more popular garage floor coverings, epoxy creates a  cross linking adhesion in the coating due to the chemical bonding it provides.  This makes epoxy sealers a much thicker coating than acrylic and very durable, but they are more difficult to apply.  They require thorough concrete preparation, they are time sensitive during application, and must go on using rollers.
Epoxy sealers can withstand heavy traffic and are abrasion resistant.  They are also  resistant to water, most chemicals, oil, vehicle fluids, road salts, and hot tire pick up.  It’s generally not a problem if you are slow to clean up any oil or fluids from your car that usually stain concrete.  When you do clean, they will wipe right up and all the floor needs is mild soap and water to clean.
Care should be taken when it gets wet because an epoxy sealer can be a little slippery if not put down with any anti-slip agents.  Epoxies are available in a clear coat as well as pigmented finishes and have a glossy shine that will enhance any color in the concrete.  They are susceptible to UV rays however and can yellow if exposed to sunlight. A good quality epoxy coating can last for years on your garage floor.

Whether you’ve decided to revamp your garage into an auto showroom, or want to increase the value of your house, an epoxy garage floor coating offers the best balance of economy and quality that will transform your garage into a practical and professional looking addition to your home.

Epoxy is a tough, long-lasting coating that is painted directly onto concrete that has many advantages, a few of them being:

Professional and High Class Appearance
When professionally and correctly applied, epoxy acts as a high performance coating that gives a professional look to any garage or workspace.

Moisture and Stain-Resistant
Epoxy flooring is moisture resistant, which makes it the perfect choice for garage floors that get their fair share of spills and leaks. It also resists stains, including motor oil and other engine fluids. The finish stays fresh for years and wipes clean like a kitchen counter.

Resists Damage
This flooring is impact and abrasion resistant, which means that you can drive your lawn mower/tractor into the garage without worrying about ruining your brand new floor. Likewise, dropped tools make no impact either.

Resurfacing Qualities
If your garage floor is cracked, stained and worn down then an epoxy coating is just what you need to resurrect it. Epoxy coatings are self-leveling and provide a smooth, polished finished that can cover up all the blemishes and failings of your current floor. It’s a great way to refresh your garage and you can even choose from a selection of colors or patterns to brighten your space up.

Concrete Preparation
Most cement floors will require a thorough diamond grind vacuum cleaning and airing before an epoxy coat is applied. However, if you choose to use Garage Enhancements to apply an epoxy coat you won’t have to worry about prepping your garage floor.

Easy to Clean
All you need to clean your epoxy coated floor is soap and water. This is because the coating is designed to resist moisture and stains, so any dirt or oil will come off extremely easily.

If you’re in the market to redesign or redefine your garage, or if your floor just needs a face-lift, an epoxy coating will fully satisfy all your needs and then some to create a professional looking garage or workspace.

Best flooring Decision Epoxy & Acrylic

Epoxy is a tough, long-lasting coating that you paint onto the concrete. It resists grease, oil and many other substances that would ruin ordinary paint. It cleans easily and can be found in a variety of colors (if you look hard enough), so you can keep your garage floor sparkling clean and attractive for years.
However, the reality of this challenging project is, one, not all concrete floors will hold a coating, and two, preparing concrete can be labor intensive and tedious. That said, this story will help you assess your concrete’s condition, show you how to clean and etch it, and demonstrate how to apply an epoxy surface that will handle car traffic, chemicals, oils, salt and scraping better than any other paint or stain.
As with any other paint job, success lies in the prep work. Plan to spend the first day removing oil spots, cleaning/degreasing the floor, etching it with a mild acid, and scrubbing, vacuuming and rinsing (a lot!). Day two is for filling cracks and applying the first coat of epoxy, which is followed by a second coat on day three. This job doesn't require many special tools. But to do the best job (and save your back), we recommend that you rent a walk-behind power floor scrubber with a stiff brush attachment. Brushes work better than scrubbing pads on concrete, but buy two pads if a brush isn't available. Also, rent a wet vacuum if you don't own or have access to one.
